Home Groups Running Applications

Hi

I have a desktop computer with a lot of ram and an old laptop.  I would like to access programs on the desktop from my laptop.  For example, I have Visual Studio installed on the desktop.  I know you can share files using Windows 8 homegroups.  My question is if I run Visual Studio from my laptop does it use the processors from the desktop to run it?  Or do I have to set my desktop up as a server and remote into it from my laptop in order to use the desktop's processing power?

Thanks

James
