I posted this on answers.microsoft.com and was told to repost this here.
I am trying to start an Ad Hoc network on my Windows 8 Notebook, an Asus R503U, and every time I get to the step of typing in "netsh wlan start hosted" I get "The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation."
I have been following this guide: http://4sysops.com/archives/how-to-share-wi-fi-in-windows-8-with-internet-connection-sharing-ics/
Before doing anything I started with the command, "netsh wlan show drivers" and I got, "Hosted network supported : Yes."
I have tried going to Control Panel->Network and Internet->Network Connections Then right clicking my Wifi adapter, going to preferences, Sharing, and making sure, "Allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection" is checked.
I have tried going through device manager and ensuring under Preferences->Power Management the, "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" box is checked.
I have also tried disabling/re-enabling the adapter to to avail.
The driver is up to date according to the Asus website.
I tried Connectify and I still cannot create a network.
I tried Virtual Router and received the exact same error as I do with CMD. "The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation."
I have also gone to Device Manager and scanned for new Network Devices. It completed extremely quickly, faster than in the video I found on this forum, and nothing new appeared.
I am really at a loss here and would really appreciate some help!
