Hello. I have a Surface Pro running Windows 8.1. At home I have a Windows domain network. I do not want to put my Surface on my domain, but I do want to access file shares and printers on my domain network. If I open Windows Exporer and navigate to\\servername, I can see all the printers and file shares. However, if click on any of them I get a "Network Error" dialog that says I do not have permissions to access the share. I would expect to see a login dialog where I can enter my domain account.
I've tried every thing I can think if. Turned on file sharing/discovery for all network types, disabled Windows Firewall, etc. I've tried using "net use" from the command line to login, mapping one of the shares as a drive, set my WiFi network connection to Private. Nothing works.
I've been using Windows machines for 20 years and this is the first time I've had this situation. If I bring my Windows 8.1 laptop home from work (which is on my work domain, not my home domain) I can navigate to and login to my home domain resources no problem....I just have to enter my credentials.
Does anyone have any ideas why this machine is behaving different? What do I need to do to get this to work? Thanks.
