Connecting to Windows 7 Share

Running windows 8 on a laptop and have a desktop running windows 7.  There are a few shares on the Windows 7 desktop.  All share have permissions of "Everyone" Full access (Read/Write).  When I'm on the Windows 8 laptop and go to the network and try to access the desktop, I receive the error of "Cannot Connect to \\COMPUTER".  There are two buttons: Diagnose and Cancel.  I click Cancel and wait for about 5 minutes.  I double click my the computer in the network again and I'm able to access the shares.  So there is some sort of delay in accessing the network share.  Like I said, the network shares are accessable there is just a delay.
