Aventail SonicWall VPN failure Windows 8.1
Having been forced to upgrade due to equipment failure, I dove in to windows 8 Feb 2013. This was automatically upgraded to 8.1 last fall. I have never been able to log on work VPN. Persistent failure when loading SonicWall cache cleaner "applet failed to load".
I have had my tower in to IT for nearly a week without even their success.
I have Norton 360 and Spybot Search and Destroy. similar behavior before and after Spybot installation
I have been advised to revert to IE 10 (not avalable)
I have tried with Chrome, Firefox, Opera.
Chrome will not upgrade due to "group policy inconsistency" All advice calls for grpeditor.msc (I don't hve that file)
None work.
Sonicwall is one of the VPN clients in 8.1
I followed one of the links above (Aventail connection not working...) and was redirected to an account setting page. There was no link to the actual entry on that page, so that was a fail.
This is a stunning disendorsement. IT is not going to win 8 as they upgrade from XP
Must I abandon windows 8 family and buy a new win 7 machine?
My windows XP home netbook does the VPN connection as usual. It too has Norton 360
Remote Desktop fails to connect after upgrade to Windows 8.1
Unable to connect to VPN
My windows 8.1 pro computer is unable to connect to vpn's, but my windows 8.1 laptop can connect just fine. The only difference that I can find in the setups, is the 8.1 pro has, in Advanced TCP/IP settings, Append these DNS suffixes(in order). There are several domains there. There are none on my laptop. Unfortunately, the area is greyed out, so I can't delete these. Any ideas why my 8.1 pro box can't connect to the vpn's (third party VPN's like Cisco connect just fine, it is just the Microsoft VPN's that won't connect). I'm not even sure that the greyed out areas are causing the problem...but how do I get rid of these domains?
Thanks for your help.
Can't connect to Homegroup printer in Windows 8 -- works fine in Windows 7
I have a Windows 7 desktop computer to which a local printer is attached and shared via my homegroup.
From a Windows 7 laptop I can add a printer. It sees the printer, connects to it, and prints just fine.
From a Windows 8 laptop if I try to add a printer, it searches and sees the printer. When I try to connect to it, it gives me an error, "Windows couldn't connect to the printer. Check the printer name and try again. If this is a network printer, make sure that the printer's turned on, and that the printer address is connect."
Any suggestions? Again, I can access it and print to it just fine from another laptop, so I know nothing's wrong with the printer itself, the connection to the desktop machine, or the sharing on the homegroup.
Thanks in advance

Unwanted TAP-Windows Adapter V9 and TAP-Win32 Adapter OAS drivers installing
After upgrading to Windows 8.1, things were working fine until about 100+ updates came through... and now these TAP-Windows Adapter V9 and TAP-Win32 Adapter OAS drivers are installing over and over again. I uninstall the drivers and they come back, I disable them, and they re-enable themselves. I have looked up answers to this issue, and I do not use a VPN...so none of that applies to me.
The unfortunate part is that I get constant interruptions with my internet and don't even want to touch my laptop hardly anymore because of this...but I need to because I am trying to start a business and get back into school. The only way I can get the internet to work again is to disable the drivers, and troubleshoot my wireless adapter. It renews the wireless adapter, the internet works for anywhere between one minute to an hour before I have to troubleshoot again.
HELP?? How to I block those drivers? There needs to be a Microsoft Removal Tool and a major update...
(I tried to add a screenshot, but I will have to wait until I'm verified...ugh.)

Internet Connection Sharing with MS Hosted Network Virtual Adapter problem/question
Hello,
So I have managed to finally to share my ethernet internet connection with my hosted virtual adapter. I know firstly I have to set up 'hostednetwork' usingnetsh wlan command, then start it up.
The next step was to actually share it. I went to my Ethernet connection and selected my hosted network adapter (Local Area Connection 14* in my case) but it didn't work. It kept saying a "lan connection is already configured with ip address". I understood what that meant, but I haven't set any IP for the created hosted network (I thought it might select something by itself.
The actual solution was that I had to use the same IP from my Ethernet connection, otherwise it wouldn't work. How is that? Why is that ? I thought the previous error said that the IP address must not be in use, but I actually solved it by using the same as my Ethernet's connection.
Another thing: no one (through the search results I stumbled upon) ever mentioned this kind of error message nor did they say something about giving the hosted network an ip address.
Could someone clear me up on this ? Thanks !
WPA security Types are missing after upgrading to Windows 8.1
After upgrading from Windows 8 Pro 64bit to Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit on my Sony Vaio Duoe 13, I could not find WPA security type while configuring Wireless network manually. (only WPA2 and 802.1X are available).
I have done a lot of troubleshootings like
1-Reinstall Wirless original driver
2-Updating the wireless driver to the latest
3-Uninstall and reinstall windows 8 then upgrading again to windows 8.1
But the same.
Is there any way to add WPA to the security type?
IE And Firefox Browser and Connectivity Issues
I have been trying to resolve an issue with my son's Dell desktop running Windows 8.1. Currently I cannot get either of the two installed browsers (IE and Firefox) to work. I have gone through several of the posted questions and tried several of the recommended solutions with no success. In a nutshell, here are some of my observations;
1. Windows Update will not work. It fails when trying to access the internet.
2. Firefox will not work. Originally it could not find the page and timed out. Now it says the the site (www.google.com) is not a trusted site. Interestingly, on the report it said the current time is 9/10/10314 4:41 Pm. I do not know if I corrupted the program or if this is a sign of the real problem.
3. Surprisingly iTunes automatic update performed a successful download. It did fail on installation.
4. I can see the other computers on my network.
5. I can ping the Google and AT&T DNS servers via CMD.
So far I have tried the following;
1. Ran netsh winsock reset (as Administrator)
2. Ran netsh int ip reset (as Administrator).
3. Ran sfc/scannow, which said it did repair some but not all corrupt files.
4. Checked the proxy server settings (off) and tried automatic detection on/off.
I was going to try using system restore, but it does not go back far enough to be of any use. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Newly installed Windows 8 laptop - WiFi immediately disables after trying to enable
Hi there,
This may be in the wrong forum but this is the best I could find. I have a Dell Latitude E6400 on which I installed Windows 8. I then downloaded and installed the Dell WiFi 1510 mini halfcard driver from its support website. I have the WiFi device listed under Device Manager and appears under "Network and Connection Settings".
However, it always appears as "Disabled." When I try to enable it, it enables it and immediately disables itself again. I've tried uninstalling the device and restarting the computer in order to allow Windows to install it itself and that doesn't fix the issue. I've also checked that the WLAN Autoconfig service is started and running in "Services."
I Googled my issue and it came back with some power management options. Tried those. Didn't work. It just keeps automatically disabling itself.
Any suggestions or help?
Thanks!
Windows 8 WiFi Problems with Toshiba
Ever since I've been upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8, my Toshiba Satellite A665's WiFi has been unstable. Not often or frequently, but randomly there will be points where the wireless connection will flicker, briefly lose the network and reconnect, suddenly go to limited, or just lose the network and I have to do a troubleshoot and repair to fix it.
What exactly is the problem? How can I fix it?
Fix for - Cannot access NAS Drives, \\Share\Folder is not accessible or "Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found"
Subject
Cannot access NAS Drives
Cannot access network attached storage
Error accessing NAS
\\Share\Folder is not accessible
Error code: 0X80070035 The network path was not found
Hi all,
I fixed a stubborn networking issue and hopefully someone else can benefit from all the frustration I have experienced over the last few days.
Some background. This was a workgroup network not a domain client/server. Also, Windows HomeGroup wizards were not used - just accounts and passwords. I have five NAS boxes for storage and backup. These NAS boxes use CIFS or SMB file systems. IP address are assigned through DHCP. It is a very simple yet secure workgroup net. Everything was OK then it hit the fan.
I installed a new router after the old one failed. I powered down the entire network, cabled up and configured the new router. On my old Vista notebook PC all five NAS devices were OK. In Vista, Windows Explorer, I could access all the folders and files on all the NAS boxes.
However on all the other systems, Windows 7 or Windows 8, I would get errors. In Windows Explorer I could see "\\MyNAS\Share\" but cannot navigate to it.
I would get an error:
"\\MyNAS\Share\ is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The specified network name is no longer available."
Or
"Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found"
Another symptom of the error: I could not access the NAS admin pages through Internet Explorer on the Win 7 or 8 systems.
I spent days trying all the fixes proposed in ALL the online search results, including many and various registry hacks, security policy changes, Windows Credential Manager changes, anti-virus and firewall removal, clearing and reregistering DHCP and DNS caches, Router and NAS reconfiguration and permissions, updating drivers and firmware, various command line tools such as ipconfig, netsh, hosts file modifications, reinstalling the TCP-IP stack, etc., etc. and ad-nauseam.
The most popular suggestion by far was Network security: LAN Manager authentication level - change the authentication level to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated (or the corresponding Registry Hack).
None of it worked. After much trial and error, finally, the only thing that worked for my situation:
1) Network and Sharing Center - Change Advanced Sharing Settings
Turn everything to OFF on all profiles and options - Save changes and close
Then
2) Device Manager - Network Adapters - Uninstall Ethernet and Wireless adapters - Action, Scan for Hardware Changes to reinstall these devices and close Device Manger.
Then
3) Network and Sharing Center - Change Advanced Sharing Settings - Turn everything to ON for all profiles and options - Save changes and close.
NAS shares now work properly and I can access the NAS admin configuration pages.
Now you can restrict some access by setting some of the Advanced sharing settings.
So simple and easy after all...
Good Luck!

Unable to detect 5Ghz band in my Windows 8.1 PC
I have recently bought D-Link dual band router and installed at home. Router is working absolutely fine because I could see
my other laptop and Ipad are able to detect both the bands. So, that says there is no problem with the router configuration. Also the router which I have bought is recently released, so there are no new updates are released yet.
As per the router installation guide, 802.11a supports 5Ghz and IEEE 802 11b/g/n supports 2.4 Ghz.
My PC details :
Model : Sony SVF14A190X
Operating System : Windows 8.1 Pro, 64 Bit
Network Adaptor drivers: BCM43142 Wireless Network Adapter
Router Details: D-Link DIR-850L VER A.1 wireless AC1200 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router.
The network adapter which my PC supports is IEEE 802 11b/g/n..i.e.2.4 Ghz. I tried installing the Network Adapter drivers in compatibility mode, but that doesn't help me to fix this issue. Also I even had an assistance from Sony Customer support and spent few hours to fix the issue, but unfortunately they couldn't fixed it.
When I cheked in Command prompt, it says following thing :
Radio Types Supported : 802.11n 802.11g 802.11b.
How should I update my network drivers to : 802.11n 802.11a 802.11g 802.11b
Please help me to fix this issue.
"Always available offline" not working
Hi,
I seem to be having some similar issues to other posters, but the advice given has not helped so far.
I have a folder on my NAS drive, which is formatted as NTFS. I can connect to it, and have mapped it. However, when I try to make one of the sub-folders "always available offline" the option is greyed out (on the ribbon, and missing from the context menu).
If I navigate to a folder on my other computer, I am able to make it available offline, so offline files is working.
Does anyone have any advice please?
Thanks in advance,
Mike.
Windows doesn't 'see' NAS drive on startup
I have a NAS drive connected to my Windows 8.1 desktop wirelessly. No problems, except on startup, when about 80% of the time the NAS drive doesn't appear ('Could not connect to network drive'). This is easily rectified; I click on windows explorer, see the drive with a red cross against it, and click on it. Immediately, the drive is seen.
I don't know why it sometimes sees it straight away, although usually it doesn't. And I don't understand why it always lets me 'see' it when I click on it in explorer. Maybe it's a startup order of loading stuff that's the problem, but I lack the knowledge to diagnose, let alone correct, such a situation.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Andy
Windows 8.1 File Explorer unexpectedly closes when on a network drive.
Ever since upgrading to Windows 8.1 (with and without Update 1) from Windows 8, the File Explorer has new quirk in its behavior that drives me crazy. My computer is on a domain and has a mixture of DFS drives and the older network drives mounted to drive letters. Whenever I leave File Explorer showing either a DFS or network drive, after a few minutes of inactivity, it will close. I then have to reopen it and find the folder again. If I switch away from the File Explorer to go to something else, many times when I go to switch back to File Explorer only to find it has closed. This is really annoying. No error message, it just closes. The computers with Windows 7 and older don't do this. And Windows 8 did not do this. Both my desktop computer and my Surface Pro, both 8.1 Update 1 do this. My servers are Windows 2008 R2.
Is there any reason for this? Or is there any registry hack or setting that controls this behavior?
Thanks, Carl
L2TP over IP-SEC not working
Hi to all for first time!
I have problem setting up L2TP/PPTP connection to Mikrotik router (server).
Everything works great until I disable ICMP packets in Mikrotik Firewall.
Can someone Tell me for what Windows needs ICMP to connect to L2TP/PPTP and is there any way to skip this part of connecting procedure?
BTW. In my Android powered phone I can connect to L2TP/PPTP without any problem - with or without ICMP.
